Indore: Railways Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the city next month and most probably will lay the foundation of gauge conversion (GC) work of Mhow-Khandwa section. He will also start GC work of Fatehabad-Ujjain section and second bridge on Gambir River in Ujjain.
After getting railway portfolio on Sept 3, this will be Goyal’s maiden visit to the city. Though, he visited the city several times to attend programmes organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) as he is a CA. An official source said that the rail minister was coming to the city on the instruction of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who is also an MP from the city. Sources said that though the schedule of the visit yet to be finalised, he would most likely to visit the city before October 15.
The most important factor of the visit would be laying of foundation stone of part of 139.19 km-long GC work of Mhow-Khandwa section, under which the GC work between Khandwa and Sanawad would be rolled out as there is plain terrain and it’s also essential because of upcoming thermal plant of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Khargone district. The GC work between Mhow and Sanawad, which is quite challenging one, is likely to be rolled out next month from the land under possession of the Railways.
Goyal would also lay foundation stone of GC work of 19 km long Fatehabad-Ujjain section. The Railways has completed the necessary preparations to roll out the GC work from next month, which is likely to be completed by March 2018. The Railways had already approved the tender. In all, 3 major bridges would be built over there. Goyal would also lay foundation stone for construction of second bridge on Gambir River in Ujjain. Some other programmes may also be incorporated in his visit.
