Indore: A 55-year-old man was robbed of cash and other valuables by an unidentified man while travelling in a city van near Anoop Talkies at Patnipura main road on Monday.

According to Pardesipura police station officials, victim Madhukar Kadam, a resident of Ram Nagar, Bhamori is a jail guard at Bherugarh Jail, Ujjain. Kadam was travelling in a city van and the vehicle stopped in a traffic jam when an unidentified man snatched his bag and fled away. Kadam told police that the bag contained Rs 70,000 cash, some important documents and other valuables. Kadam chased after the thief but couldn’t catch him as he vanished taking advantage of the crowd. The police have registered a case against the unidentified thief and started investigation.

Two burglaries in Lasudiya area

A case was registered against unidentified thieves for stealing goods from a house in Lasudiya police station on Monday.

According to police, thieves entered the house of Dheeraj Rajendran, a resident of RR Avenue, after breaking the lock of main door. Rajendran and his family had gone out of station on July 20 and theft was detected when he returned on Monday, police said. Rajendran found the lock of the house broken and all the households were disarray. Rajendran found two gold coins, laptop and some cash were found missing from the house. Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the case.

In another incident, thieves broke into the house of Vanshilal Malviya at Pink City under Lasudiya police station jurisdiction and made away with cash, gold and silver jewellery.

Elderly man beaten up by criminal

A 68-year-old man was beaten up and threatened in Chandan Nagar area by a criminal for refusing to give money to buy liquor on Monday.

According to police, victim Bhanwar Singh complained that accused Santosh alias Barik stopped him as he was leaving from a petrol pump and demanded Rs 500 for liquor. When Singh refused to give money, the accused started abusing and thrashing him. Victim’s son Manoj and his friends tried to stop the accused from beating, he threatened to kill Singh if he refused to give money to him in future. Police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation.

In another incident, Vijay Nagvanshi was stopped by Manish Mehra, his brother Pankaj and Dheeraj and demanded money for liquor in Nehru Nagar area under MIG police station jurisdiction. When the victim refused to give money, the accused threw chilli powder on his face and attacked him with axe and knife. When the local residents intervened the accused threatened to kill him and fled from the scene.

Man hangs self for unknown reason

A 45-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence near Kelod under Kanadia police station jurisdiction on Monday night.

According to police, deceased Omprakash Singh was found hanging by his relatives who informed police about the incident. Police have sent the body for autopsy and started an investigation to find the reason behind his action.
