Indore: Electricity consumption in the city is expected to be about 400 MW on Dhanteras, nearly 50 MW more to a regular day. Increase in power consumption is also expected on Chaudas but the demand of electricity on Diwali will be like a normal day, said Madhya Pradesh West Zone Power Distribution Company.

Dhanteras, which marks beginning of the five-day festival of Diwali, is considered as auspicious day for purchase so heavy rush is witnessed in all markets. Shops and malls are extensively decorated with lights to attract buyers.  Houses are also illuminated and factories are run for good luck so a large amount of electricity is consumed on Dhanteras.

It is expected that each zone would require about 15 MW of electricity on Dhanteras. We have made arragements to meet the demand.”

He said that the demand of power in the city is expected to be about 375 MW on Chaudas and 350-360 MW on Diwali. He said that the power consumption on Diwali remains equal to a normal day as factories remain shut on the day.
