Indore: A 30-year-old engineer was killed and his friend was critically injured after a speeding vehicle hit them in Sadar Bazaar police station area late on Saturday night. However, the accident exposed the shocking apathy of police as sources claimed though cops reached the spot immediately after receiving a tip off from an auto rickshaw driver, they did not care to rush the injured to hospital. Looking at the pathetic reluctance of police, few local youths hired an auto rickshaw and took the victims to hospital.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Mohit Gupta, resident of Scheme Number 74, was employed as an engineer with a company in Pithampur. He along with his friend Deepak from Ujjain was on his way back home from Pithampur, when a speeding vehicle hit his bike near Marimata Square around 11.30 pm, injuring both of them badly. Local youths rushed the victims to the MY Hospital.

Mohit’s family members later reached MY hospital and moved him to a private hospital for treatment but he could not be saved. Deepak is undergoing treatment in a private hospital and his condition is stated to be critical. Police have registered a case in the incident and are trying to get the registration number of the errant vehicle from the victim. Preliminary investigation revealed that just before the accident, Mohit had called his father to inform that he will reach home late after taking food. Police suspect the duo was hit by the speeding vehicle when they took turn for the restaurant for food.
