Indore: 25 enthusiasts from city pedal to Bercha lake to encourage cycling

Indore : Bringing awareness about cycling for saving the earth, more than 25 cyclists from Indore pedalled to Bercha lake, Mhow celebrating ‘Earth Day’ post annual celebration day on April 22. Promoting cycling for environment by quoting its benefits for health, the cyclists were able to gather attention of residents on the way.
Accomplishing their objective of encouraging cycling, they also brought in light natural beauty of lakes, which needs to be conserved. Playing green warriors, they explained how well conserved lakes can be tourist attraction.
Talking about the trip, businessman Suresh Lahoti said, “I cycle 25 kilometres everyday and I try to cycle to work and every place, wherever I have to travel alone.” He elaborated that cycling helps in controlling air pollution and healthy environment. “Additionally, riding 35 kilometres in a day is normal for a cyclist, which helps his body and environment,” he added.
Discussing how controlling air pollution can help in conservation of water, businessman Neeraj Yagnik said, “Everything is related in environment, if we will raise the temperature of earth by emitting carbon dioxide, naturally water reservoirs will be affected.”
Raising awareness about the importance of using eco-friendly transport, they tried to explain the ideas to villagers on the way. Talking about ideal condition for life, Prof KK Yadav said, “Our planet is truly a magnificent place known as the Blue Planet due to its abundance of water.”
He added that the Earth is an incredibly complex and vibrant ecosystems, where living organism interact with each other and their environment to create the ideal conditions for life. “Ideal condition requires human beings to live in sync with environment,” Yadav said.
Discussing their trip, banker Sandeep Kayal said, “Bercha Lake is one of the best getaways and we can have many more of them around the city, if we support environment.” He explained that cycling can be a revolution in the city if everyone collaborates by adopting cycling as the preferred way to commute. “Of course, we will need administration support, but that will come if we unite and take the step,” he added.
Sharing health benefits of cycling, Dr JK Yadav said, “Cycling is the best way to stay fit, after fit is always hit.”
He explained that cycling is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine because it’s also a form of transport.

· It’s a low-impact type of exercise, so it’s easier on your joints than running or other high-impact aerobic activities. But it still helps you get into shape.
· The best way to build your cardiovascular fitness on the bike is to ride for at least 150 minutes every week. For example, you could cycle to work a few days a week, or do a couple of shorter rides during the week with a longer ride at the weekend. You’ll soon feel the benefits.
· It is easiest way to stay fit as it mode of transport that fits naturally in daily routine.

Safety tips

· Look behind you before you turn, overtake or stop.
· Use arm signals before you turn right or left.
· Obey traffic lights and road signs.
· Don’t ride on the pavement unless there’s a sign that says you can.
· Don’t cycle next to another person on busy or narrow roads.
· When overtaking parked cars, watch out for car doors opening suddenly and allow room to pass safely.
· Don’t use headphones while cycling.
· Never use a mobile phone while cycling.
