Indore : Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) KN Vyas has said pollution free nuclear energy is the need of the hour in our country. He also laid stress on production of energy through traditional sources.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of 8-week orientation course at Raja Ramanna Centre of Advance Technology (RRCAT) on ‘Nuclear Reactor Engineering- System Description, Relevance and Challenges’ on Friday, Vyas said: “Per capita power consumption in our country is very less in comparison to the US and other developed countries. However, there is a big difference in demand and supply of energy.”
He further said that thermal power generation units require more space, coal transportation and large amount of water for production but the nuclear power plants requires less space and resources for generation of more power efficiently. It also releases less carbon which protects the environment from pollution.
“Design of N-power plants is more important as a little mistake can prove disastrous. India has also started research on establishment of fourth generation n-power plants along with other countries,” Vyas said.
The BARC director also spoke about development of various types of oilseeds and pulses along with participation in ‘Namami Gange Project.’
Vyas congratulated students of orientation course and advised them to complete their preparations before starting any research work. Director of RRCAT Dr PD Gupta and KN Vyas awarded students with certificates.
