Indore: In a setback to Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday granted stay on demolition drive between Machhi Bazaar and Silawatpura for road widening project. The stay was granted till May 2. The court directed the IMC to maintain status quo in the locality until its further order.

About 40 petitions were filed by aggrieved residents of the area after the IMC issued notices to them and others disclosing their plans to demolition structures, including residential and commercial establishment, proving hurdles before road widening project.  The IMC has planned to widen road on a stretch between Machhi Bazaar and Solawatpura to 80 feet whereas the residents are for 60 feet broad road.

The aggrieved residents had submitted a memorandum in the IMC requesting to broaden the road up to 60 feet but citing provisions in Master Plan-2021 the IMC had rejected their demand after which petitions were filed in the court.
