Nalasopara: The Virar Railway Protection Force (RPF) were at the receiving end on Friday evening when a mob of around 40 hawkers pelted stones on them when they tried to shoo away illegal hawkers at Nalla Sopara railway station.

Nausheen Shaikh, 40 years, was the most impacted in this stone pelting as her right hand was fractured and she was rushed to a local hospital for further treatment.

The Tulinj police (Nalla Sopara east) have registered an offence under sections 353, 332, 504 and 506 against two hawkers and are on the lookout for more. No arrests have been made so far.

On Friday evening, around 8 pm, three GRP personnel had reached the Nalla Sopara east station premises to get rid of the illegal hawkers. These hawkers create major traffic problems for commuters coming out of the station during peak hours.

To take care of the above issues and to keep the station premises clean the RPF personnel had attempted to get rid of the hawkers. The hawkers turned violent and started hurling abuses and stones at the staff.

Officials at the Tulinj police station said that a case under section 353, 332, 504 and 506 was registered against Dharmendra Khushawa and Rahul Mishra who are on the run.
