Beed: While the government has hurriedly passed a law granting reservation to the Marathas, it has not bothered to bring up to speed the back-end offices of the Setu Seva Kendra, where people must apply for a caste certificate. Currently, there is confusion and chaos.
Marathas have begun thronging offices of the Setu Suvidha Kendra in Beed. A message currently going viral on WhatsApp, gives details of documents needed for the caste certificate, which they will require to apply for posts that are now reserved for them in education and jobs. Birth certificate, bona fide certificates, school-leaving certificates, domicile certificates, electricity bills and telephone bills are among the documents required according to the message. When people went to the Setu Seva Kendra to check, officials claimed ignorance on this development.
There has been no change in the old format of the application for a caste reservation certificate, which is the reason kendra officials are unable to provide information required as per the new law. Youth, especially those in need of employment or admissions, have made a beeline to these centres for the certificate, only to find that the government has not bothered to even set up a help desk. “It is unfortunate the government has left no instructions or information with the tehsildars or the setu kendras. We are finding it difficult to proceed and it means we will not get a seat or admission,” said a disappointed youth. “We have all the required documents, but don’t know where to submit this information,” he said. District offices have yet to receive communication from the state government in this regard.
