Gandhinagar : Bharat Patel, father of Gujarat patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel told a packed rally that he was offered Rs 15 to 20 crores to stop his son from attending the August26 rally last year that proved the turning point of the statewide stir seeking OBC category reservation for the community.
Speaking at Jamjodhpur town in Jamnagar district of Saurashtra region at a rally to mark the beginning of the Patidar Ekta Yatra across Saurashtra, Bharat said that the offer was made by interested quarters to take the money and give the all important meeting a miss.
“Ensure that your son does not attend the meeting”, he said he was told. “I discussed the matter with my son and he made it categorically clear that we should not have anything to do with such money,” he said. Bharat however did not divulge where the offer came from.
The Patels on Wednesday started a Patidar Ekta Yatra, that would travel across Saurashtra region in the coming month to press for reservations. The announced intent of the rally, however, is to spread awareness for ‘Saving the girl child’ and to crusade for ‘deaddiction’.
Just over a month ago Hardik had written a letter claiming that he was offered Rs 1200 crore by a senior bureaucrat working in Anandiben Patel’s government and considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah to give up his agitation in the state.
Meanwhile, Hardik on Wednesday again confirmed that he had discussions with BJP member of Parliament Vitthal Radadiya on the 35 points agenda .
“We are willing to talk on any topic as long as it is in interest of our community,” Hardik told mediaperson at Visnagar in Mehsana district. Hardik was brought to Visnagar for hearing in one of the cases against him being heard at local court here.
