Veteran actress Deepti Naval turns another year older today but still she looks gorgeous as ever because of her simple looks and beautiful face. She was born on February 3, 1952 in Amritsar, Punjab but was bought up in New York City, as her father got a teaching job at City University of New York.
She made her debut in 1978 with Shyam Benegal’s film ‘Junoon’. Later she acted in films like ‘Ek Baar Phir’, ‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Saudfar’, ‘Mahabharat’, ‘Tevar’ among others. She became an actress, alongside Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi, in 80s, in parallel cinema she acted in films like, ‘Kamla’ and ‘Ankahee’.
Starting with ‘Chashme Buddoor’ in 1981, Naval was often cast with Farooq Shaikh and they became one of most iconic on-screen couples of the early 1980s, with films such as ‘Saath Saath’, ‘Kissi Se Na Kehna’, ‘Katha’ and ‘Rang Birangi’.
While talking about her bonding with Farooq and Dipti Naval, she said, “Farooq was a constant part of her professional and personal life.”
Apart from acting, Deepti is also a painter and a photographer with several exhibitions to her credit. Her work as a painter included the controversial ‘Pregnant Nun’.
If we talk about her real life, she got married with filmmaker Prakash Jha. The duo met on the sets of ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ where Dipti played the lead role in 1984.
She received Bengal Film Journalist’s Association Awards, Best Supporting Actress for Mirch Masala in 1988. In 2003, she received the award as best supporting actress awards at the Karachi Film Festival. In 2012, she bagged best actress award at the Imagine India Film Festival in Spain and Best Actress Awards at the New York Indian Film Festival in 2013.
