Goregaon Mulund Link Road: State government gives nod to tunnels under Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Soon, you can travel from under Sanjay Gandhi National Park, as the state government and state forest department have given a green signal to two 4.7-km-long tunnels of Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

According to DNA, the BMC’s ambitious Rs 4000-crore GMLR project was facing hurdles since the beginning. But now the GMLR project has crossed one hurdle after it got the nod from the state government and state forest department to build two 4.7-km-long tunnels that will pass under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The BMC now only needs permission from the National Wildlife Board.

The ambitious GMLR project has been in the pipeline from last four years. The GMLR will have three lanes and will connect Goregaon to Mulund in the eastern suburbs. The BMC has proposed two tunnels, which will be built 20 metres below the ground. Out of this, one tunnel will be under a 200-metre-high hill. The tunnel diameter would be 15 metre.
