Google’s ‘India in a Day’ premiered at Jio Mami Film Club

The Jio Mami Film Club hosted the Indian premiere of Google’s ‘India in a Day’ on September 20, three days before its theatrical release at Versova’s PVR Icon. The film will be released throughout India on September 23, 2016.

The one-of-its-kind movie answers the question, ‘What does it mean to live in India today?’ The movie is considered as India’s largest crowd sourced project which received around 16,000 clips and over 365 hours of footage. The clips and footage are collected from common people which depicts their dreams and aspirations.

Directed by critically acclaimed director, Richie Mehta and executive produced by Anurag Kashyap and Ridley Scott, the film received an overwhelming response from the audience. “I am very happy that MAMI Film Club picked up India in a Day. This is the best platform where it could have premiered. This is where film enthusiasts come, filmmakers come and MAMI is a point where all of them converge,” says Kashyap.

Zoya Akhtar, R.Balki and Shekhar Kapur supported the film by appearing in call out videos and spreading the word on social media. The music is composed by Oscar-winning composer Stephen Warbeck, and the film is edited by Beverley Mills, and produced by Jack Arbuthnott and Cassandra Sigsgaard.

The premiere was attended by renowned personalities like Kiran Rao, Neeraj Ghaywan, Nagesh Kukunoor, Javed Jaffrey, producer of the film, Cassandra Sigsgaard and the members of MAMI Film Club. The premiere was also attended by guests from various parts of India whose footage had been selected for the film.

According to Anupama Chopra, the Festival Director of Jio MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image), “India in a Day provides a unique insight into our country. It’s a fascinating and entertaining documentary”.

The film was also premiered at Toronto International Film Festival on September 9 and was selected for the next generation of film lovers by the TIFF Next Wave Committee.
