Don’t hang on to painful memories; create positive ones every single day, writes Sumeet Naik.
Memories are part and parcel of every living creature irrespective whether they are good or bad. Ironically the memory we try to forget or erase from our mind is the one we think about the most. Many a times while cleaning our house we stumble upon something that reminds us of our past. It could be an old photograph, a ring, a toy or even an old diary which was once upon a time our most priceless possession and companion. And as we look at it after many years, it just throws us for that moment into the past bringing along the memories attached to it. It is not the case only with humans but animals too have sharp memories. Haven’t you seen a dog, who otherwise, remain calm suddenly starts chasing a scooter or car of a particular make or color. It is because in the past the animal was hit by a particular type of a vehicle and that incident has left a deep impact on the mind of that dog. It has now become a part of its memory. Try visiting your school or college campus after years you have passed out from it. Can bet on this that minute you even approach even the entrance of that institute, memories of your school or college days will come gushing down. But as we talk about memories, we must also realise that all memories are not always good or positive ones. Some memories as we revisit gives us that internal negative vibes about that place, person or an object that it leaves us emotionally and mentally drained. There is no point in running away from it, because in reality you can’t even do that. But the best way to tackle this is to not ponder upon it so much or allow it to make an inroad into your current state of happiness. Engage yourself immediately into any act that gives you immense satisfaction, joy and peace of mind. From a long walk or drive to even watching a movie or singing or dancing or just anything that can make you instantly happy. Take a deep breath and say aloud…That was my past, It has no place in my present and certainly shall not be a part of my future. After all we can’t wait on the past memories, we need to move on to create more positive and beautiful ones.
