Mumbai: A teenager from Dindoshi approached the Navi Mumbai crime branch alleging she too was sexually assaulted by an accused who is still at large. Police, on a search for the ‘sexual offender in red t-shirt’ for a month now, have added one more case against the unidentified accused. The modus operandi and victim profile has a striking similarity to that used by paedophile Rehan Qureshi.
On Tuesday, a 16-year-old girl approached the Navi Mumbai police after identifying the accused by his image, circulated by police in newspapers and channels. The man is wanted in seven sexual attacks and POCSO cases in Kandivali, two in Dindoshi, CBD Belapur, Sanpada and two in Kharghar.
A senior cop said, the suspect targeted kids between 10 and 14, and lured them to secluded places. The accused would approach the kids claiming to be an employee of a LPG cylinder agency. He would tell the girl he was supplying the cylinder to her house and her father had asked him to contact her for locating the address.
A cop said the ‘sexual offender in red t-shirt’ came under the scanner while hunting for Rehan Qureshi, a serial rapist who attacked over 20 girls, killing two in eight years. He said, “While scanning 500 hours of CCTV clips, we identified two sexual offenders, one in blue shirt and the other in red t-shirt. Subsequently, we identified Qureshi as the one wearing a blue shirt and arrested him from Mira Road on September 26, whereas the one in the red t-shirt is still at large.”
