Mumbai: In a major respite to the victims of Siddhi Sai building collapse at Ghatkopar, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has provided the seven families with alternate accommodation. The authority has rehabilitated these residents to its Manav SRA scheme at Bhandup.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the authority to locate alternate accommodation for the 14 families which lost their houses in the building collapse. Fadnavis sanctioned these flats for the families as a special case. Each flat has around 269 square feet area. There are seven more families that are yet to receive alternative accommodation. SRA officials said that the rest of the families will be shifted to the same buildings in Bhandup.

The families will be staying on rental basis for two years. Officials said that they were planning to accommodate these families at Ghatkopar in order to avoid causing inconvenience to them. “Unfortunately, we could not locate vacant flats at Ghatkopar and had to shift them to Bhandup. We are awaiting their application for acquiring the flats after which they will be shifted to the same building.”

The Ghatkopar Building collapse claimed the lives of 17 people. The horrific incident took place after unauthorized work was carried out by the accused Sunil Shitap. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) probe report held Shitap responsible for the incident.
