Mumbai : In yet another case of accused attacking a judge, an accused hurled his shoe at a special judge when he was produced before the court on Wednesday. This is the third such incident since January this year.
The accused identified as Shahrukh Khan was on Wednesday produced in the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in city’s Sessions Court.
The accused, who is currently in judicial custody, was arrested in 2014 by Dharavi police in connection to a drug possession case.
It is learnt that the police has filed its charge sheet in the case months before but the special court was yet to frame the charges against him due to which the accused was frustrated and wanted the court to complete the proceedings.
Khan’s case was to be heard by special Judge Abhinandan J Patangankar, but before that, the moment Khan was brought inside the court room, he suddenly removed his foot wear and hurled it towards the judge. The shoe struck the table and fell down near the chair.
Manoj Kumar Sharma, DCP (zone 1) said, “A case has been registered against the accused Khan in the Colaba police station under section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC.”
It should be noted that this is the third such incident reported this year wherein accused have hurled footwear at judge. In February this year, one Mubarak Momin Khan had hurled shoe at Judge Dilip Murumkar and just a week before this incident, an accused in a robbery case threw his sandal towards Judge SV Patil of the Sessions Court. In both these cases too, the accused were reportedly frustrated with the long-winded proceedings.
