Mumbai: Three people were arrested by Shivaji Park police station and later released on bail for allegedly using foul language with on duty lady police officer during Ganesh immersion on late Saturday night.

The trio have been identified as Santosh Goudar, Vinod Parsi and Gajanan Pakale. “All the three people, in inebriated state of mind, had come to participate in Ganesh immersion procession. Our lady cop asked them to take care of themselves as they might drown. But they got angry and started abusing on duty lady officer,” said Gangadhar Ravan Sonawane, senior police inspector of Shivaji Park police station.

All the three youths, between the age group of 25-30 years, have been booked under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of Indian Penal Code. On Sunday they were produced before a court that has granted them bail on bond Rs 15,000 each.

Last week, the State police chief Satish Mathur has warned to take stern action against those who have been attacking the police force across Maharashtra.

Mathur had assured to investigate all the cases in detail after Ganesh Utsav to take stringent action against the miscreants who have been attacking on duty police officers.

Last week, a youth was seen trying to drown an on-duty police inspector in a pond in Kalyan.

Of late, Mumbai police lost its head constable Vilas Shinde of the Traffic Control Branch to an unprovoked and brutal assault in public by a pair of brothers who were only 17 and 20 years old.
