Five held for child trafficking in Thane

Bhayandar: The Thane (rural) police busted an organized child trafficking gang in Mira Road. While two minor girls including a toddler were rescued, five people including two women have been arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Acting on a tip-off from Manohar Waghela of NGO-Transforming Lives Foundation, a police team led by API Bangar  under the instructions of SP-Dr. Mahesh Patil raided an apartment in the posh Srushti Complex of Kashimira and rescued an 11 year old girl from the clutches of the accused identified as-Bhagya Kumar Prem Kumar Raj alias Gapchu (49), Deepa Prem Kumar Raj (40) and Pramodkumar Manoj Raj (42). It turned out that the girl had been kidnapped by a Delhi-based woman from her native village in Amritsar (Punjab) and later sold to the trio.

Further investigations led to the arrest of -Pinky Ravi Raj and Nandu Premkumar Raj (38) from a flat in Shanti Park. Here the police found a 3-year-old girl who was also abducted and sold to them by the same woman. Both the illegitimate deals were brokered by Nandu and Pramod, said the police who are now trying to track down the woman and her accomplices who executed the abductions. It is suspected that gang was active in the rural areas of places including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Bangalore from where children especially girls were abducted and sold off to mediators who then pushed them into immoral activities. While the rescued kids will be sent to children’s home, efforts were on to reunite them with their families. All the accused have been remanded to the police custody till 23, August.
