New Delhi: An Uttar Pradesh court’s order to file an FIR against the family of the slain Mohammed Akhlaq on charges of cow slaughter “is a gross travesty of justice”, the CPI-M said on Friday.
The petition was filed before the court “by those involved in the brutal murder and lynching of Akhlaq and who have been pressurizing the family to withdraw the case”, the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.
“Shockingly, the court gave the order without even hearing the lawyer of the family members,” it said, and asked the UP government to intervene and take necessary legal steps against the court order.
Prohibitory orders clamped ahead of planned mahapanchayat
A mob barged into Akhlaq’s house at Dadri in September last year and murdered him after charging him with consuming cow meat. The family denied this and insisted that the meat found in the fridge was mutton.
