Film: Fever

Cast: Rajeev Khandelwal, Gauhar Khan, Ankita Makwana, Caterina Murino, Gemma Atkinson

Director: Rajeev Jhaveri

This film written and directed by Rajeev Jhaveri is designed as a suspense thriller revolving around the identity of an amnesiac (Rajeev Khandelwal) pursued by beautiful women – one of whom Kavya (Gauhar Khan) is literally stalking him. He needs to get to the bottom of this intrigue, following clues laid out by incidents filtering through his amnesia in order to stay out of trouble posed by the police.

In the process he gets to romance all the women and even has hallucinations and premonitions of their complicity in his accident.

So what is he? Is he Karan or Armin? We have seen him as a serial lover, author, assassin and the mysterious women around him appear to be playing roles that are meant to keep him ignorant of his true origins.

This desi ‘Bourne identity’ has precious little action – just romance and intrigue. But the intrigue is just not interestingly developed and the romance comes through more as play acting rather than soulful. The presence of international stars like Gemma Atkinson and Caterina Murino add nothing to this tapestry of illusion and confusion which never completely unravels even at the climax.

Gauhar Khan is competent enough while Rajeev Khandelwal peddles a suave fit but unfortunately there’s nothing here that keeps you gripped – save for the lovely locale (Switzerland), eye-catching cinematography and the fancy cutting. I’d say you gotta be in suspended animation to be able to sit through this one. If you are a sucker for meaningless taglines like ‘Be suspensed’ then you could well check this out!
