A two-time World Cup winner and arguably one of India’s best limited-overs cricketer, Yuvraj Singh, suffered a major setback yesterday after he was dropped out from the Indian squad for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Ever since the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj has been in and out from the Indian squad owing to his derailment due to cancer. Even in the Indian Premier League, we didn’t see any consistency in his performance. But he is a veteran in his own right, which is precisely why cricket fans across the globe love him to bits.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in a major surprise, dropped, Yuvi for the ODIs and T20 series against Sri Lanka. Though there is no official reason behind Yuvi’s exclusion, the latest news could very well signal an end to his illustrious international career. Yuvi has been under the scanner lately. Following his fifty against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy opener, Yuvraj has failed to justify his place in the Indian team. His last seven ODI innings fetched a mere 162 runs to the left-hander. His batting has lost sting. He rarely bowls and his fielding, too, has gone down a few notches.
Understandably, it’s Yuvraj’s tumultuous form that has possibly lead to his exclusion from the Indian side in Sri Lanka. The BCCI’s latest decision could also mean that Yuvraj is probably may not be played for Indian team in the 2019 World Cup.
Meanwhile, this time around, fans around the globe are extremely miffed with this decision.
