Mumbai : The Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench on Wednesday granted furlough to underworld Don Arun Gawli who is serving his life imprisonment at the Nagpur Central prison for the murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar.
The court has, however, left it over the jail authorities and the Mumbai Police to decide the duration of the don’s furlough.However, Mumbai Police was unavailable to comment on this.Gawli had taken 30-days leave in May 2015 for his son’s marriage and later again in the month of October had applied for leave.

But later the Commissioner of Mumbai Police, objected the plea citing that the don’s arrival in Mumbai could spurt crimes in the city. Following this, Yogesh Desai, DIG (Prisons) rejected Gawli’s application on January 27, 2016, leading Gawli to move to the High Court and file a petition for a 30 day furlough. Gawli was convicted and sentenced by Mumbai’s sessions court on August 3, 2012 along with 11 others. Special MCOCA Judge Prithviraj Chavan had also slapped a fine of Rs 17 lakh on Gawli, failing which he would have to undergo an additional three-year imprisonment.
