Dist admin reclaims 27 acre ‘government’ land

Ujjain: The district administration on Monday took the possession of about 27 acre land worth over Rs 30 crore, which was reportedly occupied by the land sharks.

The land in question bearing different survey numbers is located by the Fatehabad narrow gauze track. Additional collector Santosh Verma, who supervised the exercise, informed that as per the order passed in 2008, the land was a surplus ceiling land. When dispute over the ownership title surfaced, the then additional collector Mangla Bhalerao in 2012 declared it as a private land imposing a condition that the so-called owner of the land Sharad Kumar will be allowed to sale it only to the original owner Damodar Prasad.

However, defying the order Sharad Kumar sold it to the city’s land sharks Mahesh Kandi, Anil Singh Chandel and Subhash Agrawal rendering the order passed earlier null and void, which prompted the administration to take the possession of the land back. “After declaring the land in question as government land, we took possession of it today despite the protest of so-called owners, as an opportunity to hear their side was already given,” Verma said.
