Delhi: Man booked for harassing woman commando on duty

In a shocking incident, a man was booked for harassing and passing lewd comments to a CISF woman commando on duty at the Indira Gandhi International airport.

The unfortunate incident took place at IGI Airport around 2:05 am on June 28, when a passenger, identified as Parshotam Lal, arrived at the GMR Help Desk Check-in Area to catch a flight to Kuwait. The commando, who was on duty in plain clothes, to keep an eye out for suspicious elements at Terminal 3, was near the help desk doing her job.

“Lal Initially started chatting with her and then soon misbehaved by showing an obscene gesture to a CISF woman commando deployed on the night shift at check-in Area of Terminal-3,” said a senior CISF officer, reported DNA. “The complainant also said that when she questioned the man, he started staring at her. When she asked him to move away, the passenger shouted at her and refused to show his identity and other travel documents,” he added.

The woman commando then had enough and raised an alarm and the matter was brought to the notice of other CISF personnel deployed there. The police was called in and the man was arrested for harassing a woman officer on duty. Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Lal was under the influence of alcohol.

Based on the complaint, a case under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC was registered against Lal, said a senior police officer. The CISF routinely deploys its commandos in plain clothes in the terminal to identify and keep an eye on suspicious elements.
