In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old medical aspirant was arrested for posing as a doctor in reputed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Delhi Police arrested 19-year-old Adnan Khurram on Saturday, who used a fake identity to pose as a doctor and also participated in doctor’s events. The police are surprised with his knowledge of medicines. Police also was surprised that Adnan Khurram also knew the names of doctors and department heads at AIIMS.

According to a report by Indian Express, Adnan Khurram has only studied till class X, and has no criminal background. He is from Bihar’s Sitamarhi district. Police have said that Khurram’s sister has blood cancer and is being treated at AIIMS.

Khurram told police during questioning that he decided to pose as a doctor to help his sister to get an appointment with a doctor in AIIMS. Khurram approached doctors staying in hostel through social media and became friends with them. An officer told Indian Express, “In the meantime, the accused managed to get hold of a 15-page notebook with a cover of the hospital — carried by junior doctors. He wrote his name inside and used it to get past security.”

But Adnan Khurram’s impersonating ended on Saturday when he came to the hospital to attend an internal marathon for resident doctors when he was spotted by a security guard. Later he was asked for his identity, and resident doctors also asked him few questions to which he could not give a satisfactory reply. And later doctors called the police who then arrested  Adnan Khurram.

The police have charged Khurram under sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code at Hauz Khas Police Station in Delhi.
