New Delhi : Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday summoned the second meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest policy decision making body of the party, at his residence here on Saturday to discuss the controversy over Assam’s draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He is quite upset over the way BJP President Amit Shah tried to give the NRC issue a communal angle to create a Hindu-Muslim divide that may spin out from Assam to the entire country, the party sources said.
They said the CWC will send out a message to the nation to be cautious in the BJP’s designs to give every issue a communal twist for the political advantage in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Spelling out the Congress stand on Shah’s attempt both inside and outside Parliament, senior party leader Ahmed Patel tweeted: “Not guts but greed for power, driving them to polarise India over NRC.” He said it was the Congress that shows the guts even at the risk of losing polls.
“Rajivji championed Assam & Punjab accords, knowing it will adversely affect party’s chances in polls. Earlier INC sacrificed its govt in J&K for peace. Legacy of Congress is to keep nation before party. This is guts,” Ahmed Patel added on his Twitter handle.
