Crores spent on ‘swachhta he sewa’ campaign despite gross neglect of wards by UMC

Ujjain : Ujjain Municipal Corporation which aims to reach number one spot in the cleanliness survey-2018, ‘swachhta he sewa’ recently, will spend Rs 3 crores in the execution of the campaign. However, ground reality seems to be in stark contrast, as was proved during a visit to ward 17, by the mayor, where residents openly slammed her for the gross neglect and untidiness there.

The mayor along with corporator Mangilal Kadhel and other peoples’ representatives visited the ward to take part in an event, under its cleanliness campaign. Residents complained that trash is often thrown on the road and keeps getting accumulated but UMC’s waste collecting vehicles are never around to pick it up. Despite several requests, the UMC has turned a blind eye, so much so that even the colony park has become a dumping yard.

Minister goes red faced as youths raise slogans against him

When residents asked about UMC’s plans to spend money on the campaign, the mayor fumbled for an appropriate response. Meanwhile, energy minister Paras Jain, who also visited the colony to participate in the event was also booed as some youngsters raised slogans against him, leaving the minister red faced and angry. He could only be pacified after members intervened.
