New Delhi : The Congress has smelt rat in the electoral bonds for political donations revealed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday as an attempt to arm-twist the donors of the opposition parties.

It has questioned the decision not to put the donor’s name on the bond, wondering if it would not encourage black money on one hand and give a handle to the ruling BJP to easily identify the opposition parties’ donors from the banks.

“Hiding donor names of electoral bonds is a regressive step that paints process of electoral funding to Modi govt’s favourite colour: BLACK,” says Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala in one of his tweets on Wednesday.

In another tweet, he asks: “Is it meant to stifle ‘transparency’ & give unlimited access to ruling party to misuse info & state machinery to coerce donors?”
