City railway facilities get boost in last FY

 Over 40-km gauge conversion done , 22-km Indore-Mhow electrification completed,  Rs 85 crore allocated for construction work utilised.

Indore : Last financial year proved to be beneficial for city as far as railway facilities are concerned. City got two new trains, five holiday specials and 20 special trains during the financial year 2016-17. Besides, gauge conversion of 40 km tracks and electrification of 25 km route were also done during the period.

Despite being the only ‘A’ grade railway station in Ratlam division, it was deprived of facilities it lacked over the years. But 2016-17 financial year brought several infrastructural development and passenger amenities for the city. The city railway station also registered growth in revenue collection both from parcel booking and passenger tickets.

According official information, in 2015-16 FY the city got just two holiday trains.

Due to heavy rush of passengers, local railway administration had to add record 2802 extra coaches, including 1005 general, 275 sleeper and 309 AC-III coaches, in 19 long distance trains. Train No 12405 Indore-Jabalpur, train No 18233 Indore-Bilaspur and train No 12973 recorded maximum rush of passenger and highest number of extra coaches were added in these three trains.

Record earnings from tickets and parcel

Revenue from sale of passenger tickets and parcel booking witnessed remarkable rise in 2016-17 FY. According to official statistics, average 56602 reserved passenger tickets were sold every month and earned average Rs 2.45 crore per month. Similarly, average five lakh unreserved tickets were sold per month through which Rs 4.45 crore average revenue was earned. As far as parcel service is concerned, in FY 16-17 record Rs 1.14 crore averages revenue was earned. The revenue from the service in FY 15-16 was Rs 68.70 lakh average per month.

Infrastructuredevelopment

Some of the major pending infrastructure improvement projects were completed during the 16-17 FY. Gauge conversion (GC) of 7 km from Laxmi Bai Nagar to the city railway station carried out. Similarly, GC of 22 km Indore-Mhow section was done giving relief to to over 5000 passengers of this section. Commissioning of about 8 km long new rail line between Rau and Tehi gave great relief to exporters of Pithampur. Similarly electrification of 22 km long Indore-Mhow section was also done during this period.

Definitely in last FY year city received several benefits in terms of railway facilities. The city railway station registered remarkable growth in all aspects just because of continuous support of railway minister Suresh P Prabhu and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Though the projects may look small, it were important for the city. In next two years, services and infrastructure will be consolidated further.
