3rd TSS opened at Lower Parel station

Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Sunday inaugurated the third Traction Sub-Station (TSS) at Lower Parel Station. According to MMRDA officials, these tractions would act as feeder for power supply to the entire system to run the trains. The existing TSS are situated at Acharya Atre Nagar Station and Ambedkar Nagar station. UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA inaugurated the third traction on Sunday. The second phase of Monorail which would run from Wadala to Jacob Circle consisting of 10.64 km is expected to start its operations soon, said an MMRDA official. The operations would run under the supervision of Scomi Engineering and Larsen and Turbo. Currently, the first phase of Monorail from Wadala to Chembur stretching upto 8.9km is already in operation.

Borivali woman dies of suspected dengue

Mumbai: A 33-year-old woman from Borivali died after suffering from suspected dengue even as the municipal corporation has stepped up its efforts to check the breeding spots. Sources said that the Gorai resident had been suffering from high fever and joint pains since the last few days and she was taking treatment from her local doctor. When her condition did not improve, her husband again took her to the doctor and told him that she had been bleeding from her nose. On the doctor’s advice, she was taken to Shatabdi Hospital on Saturday evening where she was declared dead before admission. A civic official said that they are investigating the matter and are also trying to locate the breeding spots in the area, so that others do not get this problem.

Passenger held with foreign currency

Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted one passenger Sayed Ibrahim Farhan, who was holding Indian Passport, on his departure to Dubai by Jet Airways flight No. 9W 538 on October 01. The search of his checked in baggage resulted in recovery of foreign currency in form of US Dollars 27,160, Australian Dollars 2,200, Kuwaiti Dinar 320, Saudi Riyal 20,350 and UAE Dirhams 6,650 totally amounting to Indian Rs 24,38,957. “All the foreign currency has been seized and the passenger, holding Indian Passport number No. Z1995004 has been arrested,” said an AIU officer.
