Christmas gift: Patalpani-Kalakund heritage train from December 25

All those fond of travel and are nature lovers should get ready to embrace the enchanting natural beauty of Vindhyachal mountain ranges as the railway will launch 9.5-km long Patalpani-Kalakund train on Heritage Track from this Christmas, that is, December 25.

The meter gauge train with two coaches having capacity of 30 passengers will cover the distance in three hours, which will give enough time to passengers to enjoy the natural beauty.  The alignment of Mhow-Sanawad-Khandwa meter gauge section has been converted into broad guage. However, the 9.5-km long Patalpani-Kalakund section had been isolated from new alignment.

On September 26, Railway Board chairman Ashwin Lohani had declared it as a heritage section and announced to provide world class amenities to tourists.  The Ratlam Division of the Western Railway is working overnight to complete the planned task before December 25.

Train stops at 6 locations
Patalpani-Kalakund rail section would be made tourist-friendly. After starting from Patalpani, it will halt at six locations. For the first time, tourists will be able to see Patalpani water fall, Tantya Bhil temple, bridge side among other spots.

Coaches from Rajasthan
The remoulded two coaches will arrive in Mhow from Rajasthan on December 10. The train will have one passenger coach, which will be a chair car coach of 30 chairs. Another will be guard’s coach. The coach will have front, middle and rear row. Mhow already has a meter gauge train engine. The railway is planning to replace the coaches with fiber glass transparent coach that will have state-of-art amenities. The production of coaches is under way at Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.

Tourist accommodation
Railway is developing lodging facility for passengers at Kalakund and dam site. A rest house will also be there.  Tower at Patalpani The railway is setting up canopies for tourists to sit and a well-secured tower platform from where passengers can enjoy view of water fall. Artifacts will be placed on the way and rocks will be carved.
