Mumbai: Thane crime Branch sleuths nabbed yet another person involved in the heist at Checkmate Services Pvt. Ltd, a cash management firm at Teen Hath Naka in Thane recently.
Minanath Chavan, who was on the run, was picked up from Manikkham village near Ghoti in Nashik. He happens to be the sixteenth accused nabbed so far in the Checkmate heist case.
Chavan had met the others last at Wadivare village to share the stolen amount. The police tracked him down by tracing his mobile location. In the last week, the Thane Crime Branch had arrested Pandurang Chavan, NivruttiChavan, Navnath Chavan, Laxman Govardhane and Vaibhav Lahamge all natives of Igatpuri.
The accused are professional wrestlers and cultivate paddy for daily living. The masterminds, Umesh Wagh and AkashChavan had lured them to commit the crime. Wagh hails from Nashik but resides at Vartaknagar in Thane. According to the Crime Branch sleuths, Wagh got in touch with Chavan who was a cashier with the company. They got Amol Karle involved and started planning the heist. Umesh had allegedly told the police that he met with an accident in Cidco area in Nashik.

“We have recovered Rs.10 crore so far. Umesh revealed to the police that his bike skidded and he had fractured his right hand.
He had played a pivotal role in bringing dacoits from Nashik and Thane together. 16 people were brought together by Umesh from Nashik and Akash from Thane,” one of the officer involved in the case informed.
