Mumbai : Family of Govindlal Panchal (57) from Vikhroli gave a new lease of life to three people on Tuesday who were suffering from end-stage organ failure diseases. The donor was declared brain-dead after suffering brain hemorrhage on Tuesday at Godrej Hospital. With this, the city has reported 12 cadaver donations so far this year.
The donor was brought to the hospital on February 22 after he suffered from internal bleeding. Jyoti Karadkar, transplant coordinator at the hospital, said, “The donor had shown improvement after the treatment, however, he suffered from excessive internal bleeding which led to brain hemorrhage.
After testing, we declared him as brain-dead and approached the family for counselling. The family had zero awareness about organ donation and we had to explain them the importance of the cause.”
After discussing with the other relatives, the wife and son of the donor gave consent for liver, kidneys and corneas.
