Byculla jail superintendent Chandramani Indulkar, jailor officially suspended

Mumbai: Opposition Congress, NCP along with Sena legislators demanded a debate in the Upper House on the custodial death of Manjula Shetye in Byculla jail. In a heated discussion, they alleged that attempts were being made to shield some high and powerful officials in the government and insisted on a judicial probe in what they termed as “murder” of Shetye.

In the meantime, MoS for Home (Urban) Ranjit Patil announced the suspension of acting jailor Tanaji Gharbudve and jail superintendent Chandramani Indulkar. He also announced a secretary-level probe against DIG Prisons Swati Sathe for sending Whatsapp messages seeking financial and legal support for the six accused jail staff. A committee will also supervise the jail, he added.
