They are opposing imposition of 1% Excise duty
Indore : Opposing Excise Duty on jewellery, the bullion traders have decided to intensify their agitation and decided to go on indefinite strike from Thursday. They took out a mega rally in the city on Monday in which 7000 traders and jewelers of the region participated.
They were opposing imposition of excise duty by the Union Government. The traders of over 10 cities like Dhar, Ratlam, Ujjain, Kukshi, Piparia, Harda, Shajajprur, Shujalpur etc reached here to participate in the rally, which started from Sarafa Square. It covered Sitlamata Bazaar, Khajuri Bazaar, Rajwada and culminated at Sarafa, where the traders handed over a memo to SDM NN Pandey.
Hukum Soni, president MP Sarafas Association, said that the government’s attitude is fueling anger among traders’ community. As part of the countrywide decision, we will observe an indefinite strike from Tuesday.
The decision this regard was taken in the meeting of All India Gems and Jewellery Federation of India held in Mumbai. Bullion traders Santosh Saraf and Ajay Bhaktavar participated in the meeting.
Soni further said that the Federation was planning to take out a mega rally in New Delhi on March 17, where over 1 lakh traders of the country would participate in the rally.
