Mumbai : Bombay Gymkhana (BG) successfully defended their title as they won the team event of doubles while, the top seeded pair of Sushant Niddodi and Deanne Rodrigues clinched the open mixed doubles title in the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra state masters inter-club badminton tournament organized and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana and managed by Shuttle Craze academy under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA). In the team event, BG convincingly beat Dadoji Konddev, Thane 2-0. In the 90+ combined age group, BG’s Shailesh Daga and Ayaz Bilawala outplayed Ajay Viz and Sumit Patankar 21-6, 21-11 while, the pair of Naval Birkumar and Amol Shah defeated Rajiv Ganpule and Anand Vithalkar 21-14, 21-14 in 100+ combined age group to emerge victorious.
In the open mixed doubles, Sushant and Deanne displayed exceptional skills and stamina to win an intensely fought 39 minute final 26-24, 17-21, 21-15 against the second seeded duo of Shailesh Daga and Naheed Divecha. The prize distribution was done at the hands of former India captain of the women’s hockey team, Sybil Miranda who also played in this tournament in the open mixed doubles.
