Kolkata : Union minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises and BJP MP Babul Supriyo was heckled allegedly by the ruling Trinamool Congress supporters in North 24 Parganas district on Thursday.

The police said that the central minister went to Noapara to campaign for the party candidate where an Assembly by-election will be held on January 29.

The police said that the incident occurred when the union minister along with some party leaders alighted from their vehicles for tea and refreshment in Mullickpara near Noapara. Suddenly a group of Trinamool Congress supporters came to the scene and allegedly heckled Babul Supriyo.

They also raised slogans like “Babul Supriya go back” and “Trinamool Congress zindabad.”

Later a strong police contingent and minister’s security staff rescued him. Later the minister went to Noapara and participated in a roadshow.
