Patna : Bihar, which stands second in dowry deaths and torture and highest child marriage, on Monday launched a campaign against the social evils with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar administering oath to 5000 people at Ashok Convention Centre to enforce total ban on the two problems.

Regulations have been made stringent and authorise enforcement agencies to arrest priests, band party members, parents of the bride and bridegroom too.

 Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said government will intensify the drive for three months during the coming marriage season.

Nitish Kumar said the North Bihar districts, Supaul and Madhepura, have highest numbers of child marriages followed by Kishanganj.

State government will create public awareness through  1500 rural folk troupes. Elected representatives at Panchayat level have been involved in the drive against two social evils

Programme held in Bapu Mandap of Ashoka Convention Centre was also  attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and speaker of Bihar assembly Vijay Kumar Choudhary.
