Bhopal: Rahul Gandhi lets Vyapam scam accused join party

Congress national president Rahul Gandhi, who has been attacking the state government on Vyapam scam, got Vyapam accused Gulab Singh Kirar join Congress on Tuesday. A case against Kirar has been registered for allegedly letting his son, Shakti Singh’s admission in pre-post graduation. BJP had suspended Kirar from the party.

Rahul, by letting Kirar join Congress, for the votes of Kirar community, has waded into new a fresh controversy ahead of the upcoming polls. MP Jyotiraditya Scindia is said to be instrumental in entry of Kirar into the Congress. Kirar may be given ticket from Pohri assembly seat. Earlier, the Congress was been very critical of Kirar and had severely attacked him after his name surfaced in the Vyapam scam. The party also dubbed him of having close ties with Chief Minister.

After the special investigation team (SIT) investigations into the Vyapam scam, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), too had filed a case against Kirar and his son. Kirar was made member of Commission for Backward Classes and given the status of state minister by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Kirar was suspended from the BJP after filing of first information report (FIR) against him in Vyapam scam.

Special Task Force (STF) had also announced a reward of Rs 5000 on the arrest of Kirar. Meanwhile, Congress’ former chief spokesman KK Mishra, stuck to his allegations leveled on Kirar earlier. Mishra said he respected party’s decision but his fight against Vyapam scam would continue.

Liquor trader MLA, ex-legislator too join Congress

Narsinghpur MLA Sanjay Sharma, who is linked to liquor business, and former MLA of Bhander, Kamlapat Arya took membership of Congress on Tuesday before Rahul Gandhi. Sharma was elected MLA in 2003 and 2013 from BJP. Congress former state president Suresh Pachauir is said to be playing a key role behind their entry into the the party. Sharma, whose chances of getting ticket from BJP were thin, joined Congress. Arya changed his party from Congress to BJP in 2002. He also joined the Congress as there was bleak possibility of his getting ticket from the BJP.

Secret behind Digvijaya distancing from Rahul’s tour

According to sources, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, when came to know about Vyapam accused Gulab Singh Kirar joining the Congress, distanced self from Rahul Gandhi’s Malwa tour. Singh has been attacking Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Vyapam scam. Singh had also attacked Kirar, when he was made an accused in the case. Singh was said to be annoyed over Kirar’s entry into the Congress as it has weakened party’s stand on corruption.
