BHOPAL: Leader of Opposition in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mohammed Saghir on Thursday issued a notice with newspaper cuttings to Mayor Alok Sharma stating a news item quoted the mayor saying that Saghir was mentally sick and BMC administration is ready to bear expenses of his treatment. The news was published in a section of media. The time of three days has been given to mayor to reply. Otherwise, criminal defamation suit will be filed in the court against him.

Advocate Abrar Ahmed said, “In the notice, Saghir said that he is a Congress member since 1978 and has been four to five time corporator and even member of MiC. He is the leader of Opposition and earlier also he was Leader of Opposition in previous Parishad.

Media has published a news quoting Mayor Alok Sharma saying that Saghir is mentally sick and BMC administration is ready to bear medical expenses. Such kind of mayor’s statement has dented his reputation. Three days time has been given to mayor to reply. If mayor denies of making any such comment, criminal defamation case will be filed against newspapers for publishing false news.”

Files complaint with EOW against encroachment officer

Mohammed Saghir, on Thursday, filed a complaint with Economic Offences Wing against BMC encroachment cell officer Qamar Saqib in connection with disproportionate properties.

Mohd Saghir said, “Saqib was promoted to the post of encroachment officer despite not being regularised as he was appointment under 89-day category. Secondly, he owns 25-acre land, a bungalow at Nariyalkheda and four flats, three cars and a revolver. Saqib heads over 100 daily wagers but 25 of them are working at his residence. He earns Rs 15 lakh per month. So I have lodged a complaint with the EOW.”
