BHOPAL: The Cyber Crime Cell on Tuesday arrested a 19-year-old BA student from Shivpuri for making fake Facebook profiles of girls acquainted with him and residing in his nearby areas by getting their photographs using social media platforms without their knowledge. He then used to harass them by posting obscene photos and videos from their IDs and even used to blackmail them.

AIG (cyber crime) Shailendra Chouhan said Sunil Gupta, 19, of Shivpuri was pursuing BA and also training in shorthand typing. A 19-year-old college student of Gwalior filed a complaint with Gwalior Cyber Crime Cell that some unidentified accused had been creating different fake Facebook IDs in her name using her photograph and posting obscene messages/photos from it on the net. The police registered a case under Section 66 C of IT Act and started investigations.

Subsequently a team was formed to nab the accused. Then through the information received from Facebook and other sources the accused was identified and traced. When he was quizzed he confessed that he used to create the fake Facebook IDs of girls coming into his contact or those residing in the area without their permission. He used to get their photos and other private information through social networking platforms.

AIG Chouhan said generally through coaching centres, college, offices or social networking platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook and other mediums the personal details were accessed by anti-social elements.
