Bhayandar : A day after a woman leaped to death, with her three-year-old daughter in her arms, in front of a local train in Bhayandar, Navghar Police arrested her husband for abetment to suicide and dowry torture on Saturday.

The incident occurred a little past midnight on August 2. The deceased, who have been identified as Renuka Singh Yadav, 24, and Aarohi, 3, stayed in a tenement in the Gaodevi area of Bhayandar (E).

Renuka, who was standing on the south side of Platform No. 4, suddenly picked up the toddler and jumped on the tracks as a train moved out of the Bhayandar railway station at 12.17am, killing them both instantaneously.

After allegations of torture and harassment surfaced, the GRP  handed over the case to their city counterparts.

Based on the complaint registered by the Renuka’s father, the police registered an offence under section 306 and 498 (a) of the IPC and arrested her husband Pintu Singh Yadav, 27, even as investigations were on to ascertain the role of her in-laws.
