Auto driver slated to be Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor

Mumbai : Pimpri–Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PMMC) has previously had mayoral candidates who have ranged from the highly-educated, sportspersons, women to farm labourers. This time, Rahul Jadhav, an autorickshaw driver, is in the driver’s seat, and will be the new PMMC Mayor.

Jadhav drove an autorickshaw from 1997-2002. Thereafter, he worked on his farm for two years. In 2004, Jadhav got married and obtained a job as a driver in a private company. In 2005, when Raj Thackeray founded the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Jadhav began his political career. In 2012, Jadhav tasted his first electoral success as a corporator.

 In 2017, Jadhav quit the MNS ahead of the municipal polls and joined the BJP under leadership of independent legislator Mahesh Landge

Autorickshaw drivers in Pimpri Chinchwad are happy that one among them has today risen to become mayor of the municipal corporation.

Jadhav has assured them, “There is no harm in saying acche din aayenge.” (There is no harm in saying there will be good days ahead).
