Indore : ASI Babulal Pawar, who was suspended on Monday night following a clash between a police team and BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s PA and his supporters, was not drunk when the incident took place.

In his complaint to the police, the senior BJP leader’s PA Ravi Vijayvargiya alleged that Pawar had misbehaved with him during vehicle checking drive at Pologround area.

He also alleged that Pawar was ‘drunk’ when he was checking vehicles.

“Pawar was sent for medical examination on Monday night itself. He was found sober in medical test report,” ASP Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi told Free Press.

Sadar Bazaar police station in-charge MS Bhadoriya stated that Pawar did not consume liquor. On a query, Dwivedi stated that Pawar was suspended so that allegations of him ‘influencing probe’ does not occur.

“In several matters, the government officials are suspended but when proven innocent they are reinstated and the suspension period does not figure in their service record,” he said trivialising the suspension matter of Pawar.

Dwivedi also stated that Pawar had stopped Vijayvargiya’s vehicle at Pologround during routine checking on Monday night because it was sans registration number.

Vijayvargiya had objected to the move of Pawar which led to a brawl between police and the former’s supporters.

On learning about the incident, more supporters of Vijayvargiya reached the scene. Senior police officers also reached the spot after which the brawl stopped.

In his complaint, Vijayvargiya alleged that the ASI was drunk and misbehaved with him for no reason.

Action demoralises honest cops: Saluja

Spokesperson of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Narendra Saluja condemned the suspension of ASI Babulal Pawar, who had demanded the PA of Kailash Vijayvargiya to show documents of his SUV sans registration number, and described it as ‘pressure politics’.

“Police never act in a hurry when a common man faces trouble on roads. The ASI didn’t do anything wrong as he was doing his duty honestly and those in the car must have shown the documents. Action has been taken against him under pressure of senior BJP leader and such action demoralises cops,” Saluja said.
