20-year-old Sunil Kumar, who was arrested on Monday for raping and murdering a three-year-old girl in Gurugram earlier this month, has made shocking revelations to police. Firstly, Kumar admitted to killing six other girls in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and was involved in nine such crimes in the past.
The accused also revealed that he followed a pattern for raping and murdering girls; and always wore his lucky shirt while committing the crime, which he believed saved him from getting caught by police. Moreover, he told police that he was caught this time as he was not wearing his ‘favourite blue shirt’ while raping and murdering the three-year-old girl from Gurugram’s sector 66. “He said he felt that whenever he wore the blue shirt and committed a crime, the police could never trace him. He was surprised that despite taking all the precautions he was caught,” K K Rao, Gurugram police commissioner told Hindustan Times.
“He would approach girls between three to eight years of age at religious community kitchens when their parents are distracted and he took advantage of the crowd,” Sumit Kuhar, Gurugram’s deputy commissioner of police (crime) told Hindustan Times.
“He always kept Rs 10 note in trousers. Whenever he got an opportunity, he would offer it to the girl on the pretext of buying them a chocolate and lured them. When the victims followed him, the accused would take them to an isolated place, spend some time talking to them to ensure the victim was comfortable and that no one suspected anything and would then commit the crime,” said Raj Kumar, sub-inspector CIA.
Gurugram police is going to conduct a psychological evaluation of the accused to assess his mental and behavioural condition. The police will also contact its counterparts regarding unsolved cases of rape and murders of minors to check accused Sunil Kumar’s involvement in the same.
