Mumbai: Participants of Sakal Maratha Kranti Morcha (SMKM) have been sitting on a fast since the last 12 days. For the first time in these days, Ajit Pawar, the former deputy chief minister met the agitators. Pawar said the Bharatiya Janata Party government is dilly dallying on Maratha reservations. “Till now the government has only given false assurances and has taken no steps in taking any concrete decision of giving specific amount of reservation,” said Pawar. He added, “Since the last four years, this BJP government has only been toying with the sentiments of protestors.” Pawar assured the protestors, Nationalist Congress party (NCP) will raise the reservation issue from the first day of the assembly session, to begin next week.
Moreover, since over 12 days the protestors have been on a fast, the NCP politicians raised a stink about the lack of basic facilities like an ambulance, safe drinking water, for the agitators.Pawar blamed the Devendra fadnavis led government for the agitators to miss out on Diwali celebrations. “These protestors were forced to celebrate a black Diwali. Nothing is more shameful than this,” said Pawar. He added, since elections will be held next year, suddenly the issue of Ram temple has been raised.
