If we were to ask you what was the common factor in Bollywood films like Sultan and Brothers, what will be your answer? Well, even before you start scratching your heads for answers, let us tell you that these films are based on the sport of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
After many Bollywood celebs added the glam quotient in sports like cricket, football, kabbadi and others, the latest update is that celebs are coming together in order to bring the MMA sports to India. From Bollywood, there is the musical duo Salim-Sulaiman and actor Ajay Devgn, who will be helming a ‘League’ each. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Sulaiman Merchant (of Salim-Sulaiman duo) explains, “The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is coming into India for the first time.
If one looks at the kind of attraction and attention that the sport has been getting, especially with films like Sultan and Dangal, one will see that the sport is growing very rapidly in India. What better than to bring it into a ‘League’ form. Aamir Khan, the popular wrestler, is a part of the ‘Master League’. It’s his brainchild. Instead of doing it on a one-to-one action match, it has now become a league. It’s a very unique way of doing the point system. It’s a very interesting sport format”.
When asked about Ajay Devgn also being a part of the league, Sulaiman Merchant explained, “We are in two different leagues. While Ajay Devgn will be helming the Punjab team, we (Salim and me) will be helming the ‘Uttar Pradesh League’. In all, there are around eight such leagues. They are Chennai, Goa, Bombay, Gujarat, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh. Each League will be helmed by a celebrity attached to it.”
