Dermatologist Dr Kiran Lohia tells you how to achieve the perfect skin without going overboard
Everyone wants to be beautiful. And now, with so many technological advancements in dermatology and aesthetics, men and women can truly optimize their looks without pain or risk. But can you have too much of a good thing? Is it possible to to go overboard? How do you know when your beauty treatments are just enough? Here’s how to achieve beauty without going toxic!
1 – Go to the right doctor.
Now, I know this is obvious, but it is important to really understand the signs of a good doc. A good dermatologist knows when to say no! She or he will guide you on a plan, and will say “hold on” she thinks you are doing too much! I always start my clients on a plan, then add on slowly. And, if I feel like something isn’t necessary, I always make sure to say no! I think of myself as an artist – so each brushstroke (treatment) should enhance your natural beauty. If a stroke will worsen the outcome, then the answer will always be stop!
2 – Take a Break When Your Skin is Feeling Sensitive
If your skin is red, irritated, dry or feeling sensitive, that is not the time to do a treatment. When the barrier is disrupted, any therapy can only aggravate your skin. Skin sensitivity is a big sign that your skin is not ready to take any stimulation. It needs simple moisturisation and healing at that time instead. So, always make sure to take a break until your skin is back to its natural healthy state before continuing on your therapies!
3 – You Have a Rash
Never do any treatment when you have a rash. All that will happen will be that your rash will simply worsen, and the therapy will not work! Your skin needs to be healthy for the best results of any procedure. Otherwise, you end up with a high amount of inflammation, that can result in irritation, marks and more! So, when you have a rash, make sure to treat it and then get your treatments started!
4 – Your Concern is Solved
Say you came in for your pores, scars, pigmentation or whatever it is you came to sort out, and you are feeling good. Now, some people feel the need to continue to treat even though the issue is sorted! Do not do this! You look gorgeous, now you only need to maintain the results! Talk to your dermatologist for a maintenance regime of creams and treatments that will be less time consuming, and healthy and rejuvenating for your skin!
