Mumbai : Maryland United scored a goal in the opening minute and then did well to hang on to that advantage as they on to record a narrow 1-0 win against Milan Club in a round-5 match of the 2nd Borivali Premier Football League (BPFL), organized under the auspices of the MDFA by the Borivali Sports Foundation and played at the St. Francis D’Assisi Ground, Borivali (W).

Hardly had the teams settled down, Maryland United launched a swift attacking foray into the rival area and caught their defence off-guard. I-League star Collin Abranches capitalised on the opening to hit the back of the net in the very first minute to give Maryland United the lead.

Thereafter, Maryland put up a resolute defence and did well to keep the Milan forwards in check. Goalkeeper Karthik Puthran was superb under the Maryland bar and made a couple of timely saves to ensure his citadel remained intact. Undoubtedly, Putharan being the obvious choice bagged the “Big Boss Player of the Match” award.

Meanwhile, Fire Dragon SC got the better of Challengers FC 2-1 in an evenly contested encounter. Challengers FC snatched an early lead through Mahesh Poojary’s strike in the very third minute. But, Dragons fought back in the second period scoring two goal through Ganesh Salkar (42nd min) and Denny John (65th min) to secure a deserving win and the full three points.
